Choice Air Care is your best choice for hvac work. We offer a full range of services for both residential and light commercial applications, no job is too big or too small. Air conditioning problems can include anything related to the ducts, electrical work, or different parts of the AC unit, itself. Here are just some of the potential problems, and services we provide:

Air Handler Problems

The air handler is the part of the hvac system that controls air flow throughout your house. It usually has the furnace unit integrated, as well as the evaporator for the air conditioner. The main piece is the blower motor, which is basically just the fan that moves air through the ducts. The blower motor is a common point of failure, and if the fan on your system doesn’t run, even without the ac or heating, it’s probably related to the blower. Besides the motor, the problem could also be the electrical controls, such as a bad relay, the control board, or the start/run capacitor.

The evaporator is part of the air handler, and the evaporator coils can easily be clogged with debris and dust, requiring a thorough cleaning. This can lead to a frozen evaporator coil, which will cause lack of cooling, among other things. Changing the filter regularly goes a long way towards keeping it clean.

A related problem results from a blocked drain tube. Condensation is a normal occurrence as warm air flows over the cold evaporator coils. This water is collected in a drip pan and is drained away. This drain line can be clogged with dust, dirt, and even algae, causing water to back up, again freezing the evaporator coil.

Compressor replacement

The unit that sits outside your house is called the condensing unit. The compressor is the major part of this unit, so if the compressor goes out, there are various options you need to consider. You can 1) replace only the compressor, 2) replace the entire condensing unit, 3) replace the entire condensing unit, as well as the indoor evaporator coil, 4) replace the entire cooling and heating system.

Obviously, the more you replace, the more expensive it will be. If your compressor is still under warranty, it may be best to just replace it. If it’s not under warranty, it might be better to replace the entire condensing unit. If the system is old, it may be best to replace the entire system. There are other things to consider, and we can help you think about what is best for your particular case.

Refrigerant Leak Detection & Repair

Refrigerant is what your ac system uses to transfer heat from inside your home to the outside. If you don’t have the proper amount, you won’t have proper cooling. If your refrigerant level is low, it’s usually due to a leak in the system. Having someone fill the system without finding the cause of the leak can be a short-term, and expensive fix.

Replacing Faulty Sensors or Electrical Controls

Electrical controls are needed to tell the ac unit to turn on and off properly. Sensors in the thermostat tell it when to turn on and off, meaning a faulty sensor can cause your air conditioning system to run constantly, or it may never come on at all. The control board and relays are other components that help control the functioning of the system, and a failure of any of these parts is a problem.
